Gamestorming and Design thinking

A friend just sent me a great video about Gamestorming.

I highly recomemend the book it mentions: Gamestorming: A playbook for innovators, rulebreakers and changemakers. I have had some great results using techniques from this book in workshops on a wide variety of topics.

As the video states these techniques are being used by both people in business to help businedd solve problems and thinkg differently as well as those using these techniqies for future workshops for designing a more suystainable future and making the world a better place!

Interestingly, I listened to a fantastic podcast yesterday at This Digital Life where Peter Merholz and Michael Dila were talking about ‘design thinking’. One of the points that emerged in this podcast is that the term ‘design thinking’ seems to be an umbrella turned which is used within different contexts:

1. How can we think differently and more creatively within business

2. How we can use design to help affect positive and sustainable change in the world These are pretty different domains but gamestorming can definately be used in both contexts.

The hosts of the podcast also raised another point about the creative class and how we can create a modern and virtual rotary club so that creative class memebers canlend their creative skills to assist with designing a better future. LOVE the idea. Surely there is a possibility in this uber networked world of ours.

Go check the podcast out…lots of great food for thought!…oh and the book…lots of juicy stuff on the book site too

All you need is love campaign

On December 7th, 2009 at 1:30pm GMT Starbucks invited musicians from all over the world to sing together at the same time to raise awareness for AIDS in Africa. In that one breathtaking moment, musicians from 156 countries played “All You Need is Love” together. – watch streaming video from countries around the world and then join in by singing All You Need is Love yourself. For each video submitted, Starbucks made a contribution to the Global Fund to help fight against AIDS in Africa. You can also help increase the Starbucks contribution to the Global Fund by submitting a drawing to the Love Gallery. The global sing-along is part of our continuing efforts to help fight AIDS in Africa. In just one year in partnership with (RED)™, Starbucks has generated money equivalent to more than 7 million days of medicine to help those living with HIV in Africa.

Spreading good via YouTube

Check out this great video channel by Danny & Charlie.

There are around 40 mash-up, doco style videos on their channel where they trapse around London with a mega-phone hugging policeman,  telling people to get back to work as they don’t want to regret missing any work time when they are old, and chatting to people about “big brother culture”, “terrorism”, “surveillance”, “consumerism” etc….

There is a very spiritual strand to this work…and also an extremely irreverent one….

This reminds me of a modern day version of the guy in the park standing on a box talking about poltics etc….but this is via image and social media….

It’s just the medium and not the messages that have changed 😉

Check out Charlie’s story and his reason for making these videos

Check out the channel and as Charlie says
