NIN Ghosts virtual film festival on YouTube

Band Nine Inch Nails  are holding a film festival on YouTube where fans can upload their video creations inspired by the NIN latest album Ghosts. (Visit the group here)

To me it seems an authentic attempt by NIN to engage with their fan base rather than solely a marketing exercise. Visuals and music are intricately related and it’s very cool for a band to engage their fans through providing a platform for fans to express themselves and share with the music creators and other fans…

On a post on the official NIN web page about the festival, Trent says:

“This isn’t a contest and you don’t win elaborate prizes – it’s meant to be an experiment in collaboration and a chance for us to interact beyond the typical one-way artist-to-fan relationship…. It really depends on how this progresses and develops.”

I will be interested to see how the band utilise the UG media….

You can listen to Trent Reznor talk about this festival in his introductory video here
